Hollywood celebrities are portrayed by the media as going to rehab for California drug treatment as casually as you or I would go to the grocery store. Celebrities probably have no more addiction issues than the general population, it’s just that when John Smith, an insurance salesman in Iowa goes to a drug treatment center, no media is present.
California is know for having very private facilities where the media cannot just camp out at the front door. These private, secluded facilities are available to anyone who can afford them. While no one thinks twice about many celebrities who go into rehab, there are plenty of Californians for whom privacy is essential.
For the person who has a high profile job and needs alcohol drug treatment, if his or her privacy was not assured, this person may refuse to get the treatment they need. Even some celebrities, especially those held up as role models for teens, don’t want their fans to know they have a drinking or drug problem.
While many facilities that cater to celebrities and the wealthy who need alcohol drug treatment are upscale, the treatment is the same as it is for everyone else. There is no preferential treatment afforded to celebrities in rehab, that would defeat the whole purpose. Everyone in rehab must face up to the consequences of drug and alcohol use.
